Thackray Brown

Thackray Brown was founded on the belief that a hamper should be more than a collection of fine things – it should tell a story about British food. Each box brings together the craft of Britain’s most talented makers, the richness of local landscapes and packaging innovations that look to the future as much as they honour tradition. From hand-baked delicacies and sparkling wines to compostable mushroom packaging and reclaimed-wood crates, Thackray Brown reimagines gifting as a way to connect people, planet, and provenance.

Founded by Victoria Williams, a female entrepreneur with a vision for ethical luxury, the brand is shaping a modern narrative of celebration: thoughtful, ethical and beautifully British.

Planet

Thackray Brown’s story begins with its packaging. Every hamper has been designed not only to delight the recipient but also to leave less waste. Smaller hampers are delivered in Mushroom® Packaging, a natural material grown from mycelium and agricultural by-products by the Magical Mushroom Company. This innovative packaging is durable enough to protect delicate goods, yet when its job is done, it can be placed in a garden compost heap and will break down harmlessly within weeks.

For larger hampers, Thackray Brown turns to New Life Wood, a British social enterprise that reclaims timber destined for landfill and transforms it into handsome crates. These sturdy boxes not only give new life to salvaged wood but also create a keepsake piece for the recipient to reuse in their home.

Temperature-sensitive goods are safeguarded with Woolcool, a pioneering British invention that uses sheep’s wool as natural insulation. Certified compostable and renewable, it replaces plastic-heavy liners while maintaining the highest food safety standards.  The result is packaging that reflects luxury while remaining firmly rooted in ecological responsibility.

People

At the heart of Thackray Brown is a commitment to British produce. Each hamper is a showcase of bakers, cheesemakers, vintners and farmers whose dedication transforms simple ingredients into something extraordinary. By giving these makers a platform, Thackray Brown strengthens regional food economies and preserves time-honoured traditions.

The social dimension extends into the very structure of the hampers themselves. Large crates are produced by New Life Wood, a social enterprise that not only rescues discarded timber but also provides training and employment to people facing barriers to work, such as those rebuilding their lives after prison or long-term unemployment. Every hamper, therefore, is both a celebration of craft and a contribution to social renewal — a reminder that true luxury uplifts people as much as it pleases the palate.

Business

Founded by Victoria Williams, Thackray Brown is guided by a vision that gifting should be as meaningful as it is beautiful. As a female founder, Victoria has redefined what a luxury hamper can be: not a basket of excess, but a carefully composed experience that tells a story of provenance, responsibility, and elegance. Under her leadership, the business champions quality over quantity, hand-selecting items that reflect the season and the skill of their makers.

Transparency and local sourcing are not afterthoughts but central pillars of the business. Each hamper is an invitation: to savour the flavours of Britain, to support communities and artisans and to embrace a vision of ethical luxury where every detail matters.
